Words of Wisdom

Calling all Moms! I need your help. As you know I have three daughters, Janae 15, Corinne 2.5, and McKenzie 15 months. Clearly we have our work cut out for us for the next two decades and I am always so curious as to what others do or don’t do when raising their girls. My hopes and dreams are that they grow up being secure, strong, responsible woman that value themselves, their families and respect their community. But I am well aware that this is easier said then done. I am also too aware that the teen pregnancy statistics are not in our favor. 1 out of 3 minority teenage girls will have an unplanned pregnancy by the age of 20!

So how do you do it? How do we raise them in a society where sex not only sells but has become the norm?

  1. Gosh, that’s a tough question. I suppose that sticking to your beliefs and being the role model you’d like your girls to turn into could be a key to raising those pretty brown-haired ladies into fine young women. Thanks for linking up with me, Coretta!

  2. What helped me was surrounding my daughter with great mentors. Finding women that can inspire them to truly live out who they are can be an irreplaceable gift. I did some of that through rites of passage. . .
