What a great way to start your day

Surround yourself

with the dreamers and the doers,

the believers and the thinkers,

but most of all,

surround yourself with those who see greatness within you,

even when you don’t see it yourself.

Spring Fever

Spring has sprung (barely) and we are trying our hardest to enjoy some warm weather!  I know that by living in New England I should be used to Roller Coaster weather but this is just ridiculous!  Today is May 13th and I tjust turned our heat on!  4 days ago it was in the mid 80’s!  Blah!!!!

I really want the warm weather to come and to stay!  I promise I won’t complain when it is so humid we can barely breathe, or when I look at our Electric bill after 30 days of round the clock Central Air.  Pinky promise, I swear!  Warm weather and sunshine is so motivating!  It makes you want to start your day earlier, eat your healthiest and drink lots of summer drinks.  Okay, I know, I know!  I drink all year long so what’s the difference you are wondering?  No difference in quantity but my beverage of choice does change!  Don’t judge me, 2 girls only 16 months apart, enough said!  Back to my topic now.  I want warm weather and I want it now!

Here’s a few pictures of the girls outside!

Our new favorite!

I am always looking for fun activities that will entertain the girls and best case scenario teach them something at the same time.  A few weeks ago a friend posted a picture of her daughter sitting on the kitchen floor with a few pipe cleaners and a strainer and I thought it was such a great idea!  Today I tried it with McKenzie and it was a hit!  It took her a few tries to get it but than it was smooth sailing.  After she mastered getting them in I showed her how to bed the other side in.

This was the perfect activity for McKenzie while I was cooking dinner.  I gave her 5 pipe cleaners and she would put them in.  Clap for herself. Take them all out.  Then do it all over again!

ImageA few pipe cleaners and a bowl of some Rainbow pasta entertained Corinne.  We turned them into necklaces for everyone when she was done!

What about you?  What are your go to activities for you kids?

Read and Do’s

Last week one of my favorite ladies I follow Dani Hampton posted on her blog Sometimes Sweet how her and her son did a Read and Do.  They read a book, and than did an activity related to the story.  Super simple, yet fun for the kiddos and an opportunity to cram in some great lessons!

Last night I went through our library of books and separated at least 25 that we can easily do this with.  Some a craft, others an activity like a game or baking.

Today we were rained in, still sick with colds and itching for something to do.  I went to my new pile of books and grabbed If You Give a Moose a Muffin and headed into the kitchen.  Just my luck we happened to have blueberry muffin mix in the cabinet and all of the needed ingredients.  The three of us sat and read the book together, which of course they loved.  After we looked at the pictures and talked about the story we brought the book into the kitchen with us to make our Moose Muffins.  The girls love to bake and it is hands down one of my favorite things to do with them.

My Helpers!

Enjoying the fruits of their labor!  We had so much fun and we are going to do this at least once a week!

Today I am linking up with some other lovely Ladies who have lots of great things to say!  mbmixerbuttonidea

Precious Storage

Every now and then my creative sparks ignite and I come up with what I think is a great idea!  This happened recently and the outcome was a great storage idea for my girls artwork!

ImageThat’s it!  A plain old 3 Ring Binder from Staples!  Ha ha!  I bought 2 packs of the plastic sheet protectors and filled a large (2.5 inch) 3 Ring binder with them.

ImageI don’t save every picture that they make but the extra specials ones that I feel are keepers are stored neatly in this binder which has a home in our craft closet.  Their letters to Santa, Birthday wish lists and a picture they made for Father’s Day are a few that are special to me.  I am not the most sentimental person and I struggle with a compulsive urge to throw everything out in order to avoid clutter.  But I know that I love looking at anything and everything that my Mom saved from my childhood so I’m sure they will be the same.  So for me, this system is perfect!

What are your storage techniques?  I would love to hear how others save their artwork and avoid clutter.

This is shaping up to be a great week so far!  I’ve had more Doula inquiries this week than ever!  I also have been asked to speak at a local college about my work as a Doula in March.  If I can manage to not have a panic attack I’m sure it will be a blast!  My website is currently being converted and it is looking fabulous so far thanks to the wonderful Snap Shots Design!  In this Tuesday’s Mommy and Me time we had 3 new Moms and 1 returning Mom we haven’t seen in a few months AND she’s expecting!

Here’s to an even better second half of the week!  How’s your week going so far?

Some unsolicited advice

I always knew that one I was blessed enough to become a Mom I would also take on the role of being a SAHM.  I never really put much thought into the how’s and why’s, I just knew it was how it had to be.  After the birth of Corinne the starts aligned in my favor and I was able to stay home full time with her.  The transition has been rough at times but the rewards are obvious and it is something that I love and feel honored I am able to do.

I remember many times feeling guilty when Josh was leaving for work and I was laying on the couch with our beautiful baby sleeping on my chest, or on cold, rainy days when I had the luxury of staying inside nice and warm and he did not.  But like everything else in life there is a balance and all aspects have to be considered.  There are the days when she would be extremely fussy and difficult to console and he would be walking out the door while she was screaming, or when you finally think you are able to take a shower and your peacefully sleeping baby wakes up screaming!  Yeah, it’s not all naps on the couch and play dates.
